Tucker Carlson as the New Tokyo Rose
A little background on the reasons that led me to the conclusion that Tucker Carlson is the new designated Tokyo Rose. The second World War was not simply a huge land, air & sea war. It was a war of propaganda, both good and bad, from the Nazi war machine and from the US homeland.
Brilliant directors like John Ford and Frank Capra were enlisted to come up with films like ‘Why we Fight.” The President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, held fireside chats to inspire the nation with talks such as “The Four Freedoms” speech that is still invoked to this day.
And in the Pacific, our ‘boys’ were subjected to the tirade of anti-democratic slurs and insults that were part of the Axis propaganda machine. Tokyo Rose would often broadcast to demoralize the troops serving in the Pacific. And the person who was convicted of treason was a mythical Tokyo Rose. There was more than one female who played the part of Tokyo Rose. But she (Iva Toguri Aquino), was convicted of treason for her role in demoralizing troops and committing war crimes against the United States.
Tucker Carlson has been to Hungary in support of Viktor Orban. And he then shrugs his shoulders on his broadcast and says, “I GUESS I support democracy…?!”This indicates there is a pattern here of someone who is unambiguously regarding the democratic form of government as passe.
Tokyo Rose Carlson, as with the women of World War II, is not alone in his unrelenting assault on the democratic form of government. The idea that you can simply use the term ‘Freedom” in a sentence and produce results is completely wrong-headed. The Fox Network has tried to build their propaganda machine on the idea of “Freedom Fries” and patriotic rants against liberals. And then throwing out that old standard, “I’m proud to be an American/Where at least I know I’m free,” as if that gives them cover to rant and rave and assault the true meaning of a democratic society.
All of the assaults on democracy are part of the propaganda tools that are the cornerstone of Trumpism. And Trumpism is equivalent to Carlson’s Illiberal and ill-advised assault on our democracy. It’s a way to demoralize and de-stabilize the allied forces that are now well-defined in our fight against tyranny and dictatorship. The Small “D” democracy doesn’t really apply here. Just go to the European Union and listen to Zelensky speaking. You will soon realize what real Democracy means to our planet.
Democracy is defined as governments in favor of the rule of Law. Our United States Constitution is supposedly sacred to conservatives. Except when it is not. We are being threatened now, both from without and within our borders. The forces are converging to demoralize liberty and freedom, and to spread lies and propaganda. From the rulers like Orban and Trump and Putin, to the lies about what happened on January 6th, this insurrection is part of a new breed of Tokyo Rose wannabe’s.
Tokyo Rose was not just one person. And there are many more traitors to our democracy who are more than willing to be disloyal to the foundations upon which we are founded. Their advantage is ignorance and hatred, and they use it to spread lies and misinformation on a small scale every day. But Tokyo Rose Carlson has a large platform to deliver his diabolical stew of lies and hatred.
Looking at Carlson’s bio, he has made a career of using the media platform he developed to spin not just lies, but bigotry and hate-filled commentary directed towards all of those who are not members of his own Anglo-European ancestry. Lately, he has been pushing the “Great Replacement” theory often on his broadcasts. One of the Charlottesville chants was “Jews…will not…replace us!” But the fill-in-the-blank here could be almost any other race or religion that doesn’t meet the White Supremacist standard.
Carlson is a standard-bearer for the White Nationalists as well as the reincarnation of Tokyo Rose. And his show is one of the top-rated cable news shows on Fox. What does that tell us about “us?” About the US and too many of the followers of Fox & Friends? That we are a nation that can fool some of the people all of the time.
