The Speech that needs to be given on Israel
Here is the speech that Joe Biden needs to give, and that needs to be given concerning the mixed-messaging we are hearing from the left about the Middle East and Israeli-Palestinian/Hamas conflict.
Number One: This war was coming….
It is between age-old forces at play that have not been checked for decades… This has been festering…and one question has to be asked,
Why are people so enraged now?
Because many of us saw that the apartheid-like conditions the Gazans were living in was unsustainable for decades. Of course, the atrocities from the IDF are causing this outrage, but the conditions have been ripe for those of us who saw this coming a long time ago. This was a volatile powder keg waiting to explode.
Number Two: Bibi Netanyahu is responsible for the atrocities in Gaza
It’s NOT the US. It is bolstered by the hard line right wing faction in Israel. Let that be clear. An eye for an eye has led to carpet bombing and atrocities… We CONDEMN these attacks in America, but we are not overseeing the conduct of this war. Our soldiers and generals have not been involved, and have not drawn up the planning that has led to this horrific situation in Gaza.
Number Three: This attack on Israel, on October 7th, on the Jewish People- was Hamas’ doing…
It is a hatred that is deep and should be snuffed out. But not with innocent lives of people living in Gaza. This needs to stop right now. But Hamas lit the fuse and ignited this war and they are using people as human shields and hostages also. They are terrorists who do not deserve our pity.
Number Four: We are working to end this…Every day…
The US policy is trying to use diplomacy that is done behind closed doors. They are not screaming and yelling … but working towards PEACE. The Biden Admin has been working for peaceful resolution for months to end this conflagration of events. The successful small steps have seen a short cease-fire and some hostages released. But it’s not enough. Again, if you are not controlling the firepower and the hard right is not listening to reason and advice, it is hard to control multiple events that have spiraled steadily out of control.
Number Five: Protest is understandable…
This is an open democratic society and your voices are heard…we HEAR you…and understand; and our frustrated with the slow process… BUT…but…but….As stated, this is something that needs to be understood. The real criminals are overseas. The US is not at war. We cannot pour frustrations spiraling out of control into hatred of the Jewish people. They are not responsible for this. And as for those many young people in sympathy with the Gazans, your voices are heard. However, there needs to be more understanding given to circumstances beyond our immediate control.
Number Six: The United States is not at war…
Yes, we do give Israel money; and have done since the 1948 Charter to allow them to survive after the Holocaust**; The October 7th attack was beyond horrific, and we condemn Hamas for starting this conflict. But the US is not conducting these attacks. They are condemned and we are going to work harder to make them stop.
Number Seven: Israel is responsible for the conduct of this war.
We do back Israel’s existence; but NOT their right to indiscriminate bombing on innocent people. That is the priority right now. We are working to make the hard liners stop this. Hamas is hiding, as the cowards they are, among the Gazans and innocent civilians. And that has been the crux of what has occurred. Hamas slaughtered and massacred innocent people, and Israel has been focused only on revenge.
Number Eight: This is a good time for all to find out more about the history of this conflict…
And what the root causes have been and why the Palestinian people are now in this plight… The blame can be traced back decades; with many failed paths to The two-state solution …
The Palestinians bear a share of this burden. As do the surrounding Arab states that saw and did nothing or not enough. It was also the fault of US policy which didn’t understand or try to end this untenable situation. The groups that allowed Hamas to remain in charge and gain power through Qatar with funds being funneled , at the knowledge of Bibi Netanyahu & his government bear a lion’s share of this horrific situation at present. It was the supposed “Appeasement’ of Hamas which led to the horrific attack of Oct 7th. The funneling of money has been documented by the New York Times in a well-sourced report. We know what happened. Now we need to know why it took Bibi’s government 7 long hours to intervene when so many people were taken hostage and killed.
Netanyahu has to go as Prime Minister. He is also hiding from any type of recrimination or backlash by conducting a brutal war he believes may just gloss over his many sins and miscalculations.
The history of the Middle East Conflict is a long and bloody and brutal one. It can be traced back thousands of years really. But we can focus on the past 75 years or so of an uneasy settlement of Israel in the heart of the Arab Middle East.
Number Nine: The Trump Administration and Abraham Accords
…were working to create alliances with Saudis and others. The Business goals of growth and stability with Arab partners in the region are not unwarranted or misguided, but their insistence on ignoring the Palestinians in all negotiations was a fatal error. The Trump/ Bibi alliance which was stubbornly and willfully blind to the settlements which were still being built as the plight of the Palestinians was ignored; and their willingness to simply walk away from the long held Two State Solution & ideas for peace characterize the way this situation has been fomented. The Kushner-led envoys encouraged Israelis…& Saudis- to lead into this moment we find ourselves. And it’s not a good place to be. Kushner walked away with $2 Billion from the Saudis. And the braggadocio of the Trump Admin working to ‘solve’ Middle East conflict is something that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Number Ten: Finally, the phrase: “Peace through Strength” should be discussed.
No killing or hatred of a people is ever acceptable…. & the US has been one of the leaders in keeping the peace throughout the globe since World War II ended. The vast majority of times, maintaining the peace meant negotiating without resorting to war or to invading other countries or terrorizing our adversaries .(Many will now point to Iraq-and we acknowledge the mistakes we made in that region. We acknowledged terrible mistakes, and we have finally ended the conflict there…)
As a reminder, which is not a justification, but we were terrorized when we did send troops in after 9/11…(along with our allies!)
There are times strength means wisdom with superior knowledge, with patience and understanding, and through peaceful dialogue And it means maintaining open lines of communication. Hatred is something that we condemn from all who simply do not understand, or perhaps don’t take the time to understand a complex and complicated problem. Short sound bites will not win the day….
Peace through Strength means more than mere words or catchy phrases. You must engage in diplomacy and put your words into action by helping to heal and to foster understanding. Fomenting riots, enraging a crowd of followers, or simply writing down catchy slogans will never win the day. Slow and steady engagement will win the day and win the Peace. It is a Peace worth winning….
