The Politics of Hope

This week in the “Politics of Hope, we are talking about the Trump Administration during this first 100 days. It’s been just one month, and we are beginning to see the seeds of hope and of dissent that are shooting up in many different directions. The Global leadership question is also notable as the Ukranian conflict has marked three years of fighting after Russia & Putin invaded their country. There was a great picture of the leaders of the Free World standing in the city of Kyiv to show their solidarity with Zelensky & with the Ukranian people. Notably, the US was absent with no representative and a clear position of Trumpism being solidly linked with Putin and with Authoritarian rule over Democracy.

One thing that many people are hoping to actively convey is this: We do not stand with Trump or the Project 2025 Agenda! Trump-ISM is a separate movement that has divided us here in America. Many of us had hoped Trump would be defeated, and it would give us a chance to try and unite as one America. But until there is a different leader in a MAGA-only party, there will be a clear divide and a wide gulf between those who voted for freedom and democracy and those who voted to allow a wannabe dictator to try and put down roots in the American system of government.

Here’s why we are hopeful

* One Politics of Hope story shows that as the Measles outbreak spreads, there is a growing movement to vaccinate vulnerable children…at least in Texas!

*Many US Companies are NOT ditching Diversity programs simply because the Trump Administration urges the abandonment of principles!

*Rallies are being organized all over the US! (One important protest is scheduled for Friday the 28th to boycott businesses!)

*There is a pushback that has begun to protect the US Postal Service as it is now under attack…

*There are many ideas ‘percolating’ and Democrats are already organizing for the 2026 Midterms and campaigns to #TAB (Take America Back!)

Of course, there are terrible headlines in the news each day. However, as many have urged, we cannot simply despair when we see the push and the power of a dark and destructive movement that is focused-seemingly hell-bent-on working to destroy the government and the lives of so many innocent and hard-working Americans. We need to organize and to steel our spines and also to take note that this is a prolonged fight worth taking on and it is one that we must win.

Many of us were almost paralyzed when the country decided to vote for someone who is so obviously destructive and nihilistic. But when we see the damage that some of this Project 2025 movement has wrought in the course of one short month, it helps to steel the spine and spur people on and into an action mode. That is why The Politics of Hope’ exists. And instead of looking at a few select stories and knowing we are hopeless in the current moment in the face of this onslaught of darkness, the stories and the people are inspiring and creating an impetus to find even more inspiration and motivation that will propel us forward!

People around the world have found creative and passionate ways to voice their opposition to tyranny and dictatorship. People in China and Brazil and in Ukraine have been sources of inspiration for those of us here in the US who feel we need to make our voices heard. The leaders and the activists of the past in our own Civil Rights era are sources of pride and motivation to speak to us from the past of dark times in our recent history. It tells us there is a way forward. And we cannot give up hope.

Many of the stories are dark. But even on Twitter (X), there is a space at the top of our feed every day which is reserved for stories of hope and of opposition to an Authoritarian Regime. Follow us each week….
