Problems in American Democracy: The Ugly Truth is this: The GOP has permanent control of 1/3 of the Government
Most average citizen doesn’t understand the threat. As the idea is that the GOP doesn’t really have to capture the White House. They already hold power in 1/3 of the American Government without winning the election cycles! They BARELY won the House. The popular thinking is that more people vote for the Democratic and Independent tickets. Meaning that we currently live in a Minority-ruled country.
Why? Because the GOP has captured the Supreme Court. All they needed to do was capture a minimum number of votes required to narrowly win the House. NOW they hold one-half the power of the entire nation without winning a majority. The Executive Branch is the only branch entirely controlled by a party other than the MAGA based and Corporate controlled GOP.
If the House and Senate are won in the next cycle, then 2/3 of the power of the country is held by the minority ruled faction. And if they win the Presidency, then not only Corporate America controls the power. But now the MAGA “Crazy Caucus” will control the government. And that means there is no guarantee the democracy will continue.
But most people don’t understand how fragile the precipice is that we now are struggling on to try and save the democratic system of Government in the United States of America. Or the problems we would face with “A National Divorce,” as MTG so stupidly frames it. Because the reason the USA has been a global superpower is the power of E Pluribus Unim. Out of many = ONE. Meaning the stronger we stand together, the better off we are. Divided, we fall.
What should we do about it? Should we host a series of Public Service ads to try and educate voters about what we need to do? And should Civics mean that people need to be educated not only in schools but in each voting cycle as to what the implications are for failing to vote and carry out their civic duty? Because we know that there is a large chunk of the voting age public that simply don’t choose to exercise their right to vote!
And the consequences are devastating. As explained above, the idea that we can just shrug off some of the crazy antics of the Looney-Tunes Caucus that now controls the House of Representatives is unacceptable. And the idea that these people could somehow take complete control of the government is unimaginable. The ones who are the so-called “Grown ups in the Room’ include people like Mitch McConnell and Mitt Romney. The Senate leaders who are not considered raving lunatics are instead the Corporate Overlords who do control the Nation’s Economy. Why? Because of the Dark Money that has basically taken control of the Supreme Court.
Mitch McConnell helped to engineer the takeovers when he first blocked Merrick Garland, Obama’s pick, from ever coming up for a vote. And Mitt Romney famously said, “Corporations are people, my friend!” Corporations are NOT people. They are Corporate Overlords who want to control the levers of the economy to make them work for the one-percenters and the Uber-Rich. And they have won. They DO control the interests of the rich over the interests of the middle-class.
The extremists have overturned Roe v Wade. The Corporate Overlords enacted Citizens United. The extremists have gutted Voting Rights. The Corporate Overlords forced a vote to lower taxes when their was no reason for doing so, other than the wish-list of the Uber Rich Donors to the GOP. They have influenced Gun Rights, and now are going after Affirmative Action. They are not through.
Next, they are coming after Social Security and Medicare-The Social Safety Net. They have privatized schools and prisons. This is also a huge boondoggle for their cronies and leads to lucrative government contracts for their preferred friends. All of this is interconnected. And it’s not that hard to figure out.
Unlike the woman who listens to the ‘wind’ and hears voices and sees things in the Dominion News Brief, you don’t have to be crazy or unbalanced to figure this out. Just follow the money and the logic. And you will see a clear trail. Look at the three branches of government and see for yourself what the Ugly Truth really is. This is where we are heading. Towards a cliff that we see looming. And there is no secret about the causes for our current dilemma. The remedy is to vote!
