One of the other underlying problems that we face in the leadup to the next election is the spread of disinformation. It is documented and has been another insidious and pernicious underlying factor in the divisions in our country.

We spoke of Dark Money’ influence in the last posting-this is one that tells us we have another huge problem with the amount of disinformation that is being spread online. Some of it comes from foreign actors in Russia & China. Some of it has been spread by our own citizens.

Global Disinformation Campaigns

One of the recent disinformation campaigns that has met success in the US is the one about Ukranian President Zelensky owning a yacht! This lie was spread by Marjorie Taylor Greene and other members of the US House of Representatives. Even her GOP Colleagues acknowledged this is Russain propaganda that she is spreading. Another recent lie was promoted by Russian bots that spread rumors and lies surrounding the migrant border crossings in Texas.

We have seen recent examples of Russian State media praising actors such as Tucker Carlson and even Speaker Mike Johnson for furthering the cause of Russia! The question is always: “Why?” Why is there a need to promote and further the ambitions of a murderous thug like Vladimir Putin.

Why are we not questioning the many ongoing TikTok conspiracy theories that probably emanate from China. And even Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi questioned the notion that the pro-Palestinian protests were all being organized by honest true believers in the Palestinian cause. In the past, we saw that many of the protests that swelled during the “Tea Party’ era of protests were actually organized by groups such as the Koch Brothers, as well as Dick Armey’s Dark Money group from Texas.

Back to Dark Money

Which leads us back to the Dark Money influence and the notion that some of the current divisions may need to be questioned further and investigated thoroughly. Not all that glitters is gold and not all who wander are lost is the saying we need to remember.

In this iteration, we need to clearly examine many of the stories that simply state as fact many of the daily headlines which could be coming from a source that is solely interested in creating chaos and sowing division.
